September 2017

From the Desk of Dr. Cotton
We have had such a great first few weeks of school! In my visits to your schools, I see engaged learners and a great variety of innovative learning experiences. You are developing relationships with our students that are certain to support their achievements for years to come. I'm so proud to work with each of you as we again embark on the journey of supporting students as they learn and grow.

Provide Your Input
Interested in serving on the committee that helps to create the school calendar? All staff members are encouraged to participate in this PLC by attending a planning session on September 18 at 4:00 in the School Board Meeting Room on the third floor of the Henry County Administration Building. Please click here to RSVP by Friday, September 15.

Have You Learned to SWIVL?
Each school is now the proud owner of an iPad and SWIVL for use in classroom and professional development engagement. Make use of this device to record and share presentations, observe a class in action, reflect on your practice, or engage students and families in a creative way. See your ITRT or librarian today to learn more about using this tool to enhance learning in your building.

Extend Your Learning
Participate in an Evening Technology Academy session this month to gain knowledge and earn PD points in the process. Click here to register.

Google Chrome lets you sync your bookmarks and extensions so you don't have to add or transfer them to your other computers. Follow these three quick steps for enabling sync on Google Chrome.
Step 1: Within Google Chrome, click on the menu in your Chrome browser (the three lines/dots in the upper right-hand corner) and choose Settings.
Step 2: In the new tab that opens, click the Sign in to Chrome button near the top and sign-in to your account.  Your email address and email password.e Image
Step 3: You can choose which settings you want to sync or "Sync everything."
(Optional) Step 4: Enable syncing in Google Chrome on your other devices, such as computers, phones, or tablets. The features you chose to sync should appear shortly.
Now you don't need to transfer your bookmarks, re-download your extensions, or struggle to remember your passwords -- Chrome brings them along for you.

Recognize a Colleague

Students, staff and community members have the opportunity to recognize the great things that happen in our school division each day in a very special way. Take time this week to nominate a colleague for the Superintendent's Starfish Award. Dr. Cotton will surprise staff members with this recognition each quarter. Complete a nomination form here.

From Our Community Partners

Attention teachers!

The Conservators Center is excited to invite all educators to our first ever Educator Appreciation Day on September 22, 2017, from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm! We designed Educator Appreciation Day to show our love for teachers at any level, pre-K through postsecondary. This event takes place in the late evening hours when you can best experience roaring lions, howling wolves, and some unique animals you never knew existed!

Visit us and learn about our education resources -- including our popular field trip programs aligned with grade-level science curricula -- and participate in an amazing tour of our park, which is home to over 80 individual animals! We offer field trip tours for all age groups and can accommodate elementary, middle, high school, and college level curricula if requested when you schedule your tour.

Educator Appreciation Day is FREE for educators in any public, private, or home school with a valid school ID. We will begin this awesome event by having our education team tour guides give you one of our premium twilight tours around the park. Feel free to ask them lots of questions! Afterwards, we will be breaking up into grade levels so that you can discuss, with the members of our education team, what to expect from a field trip at the Conservators Center. Dialogues are important to us: we’d love to hear what would be the most beneficial to you and your students!

As a token of our appreciation for spending a few hours with us, all attendees who book a field trip by end of school 2018 will receive a voucher for 6 FREE Family Adventure tickets to be used before Dec 1, 2018. This coupon can only be used on a return trip with your family after you have experienced one of our field trips with your students!

To register, please email fieldtrips@conservatorscenter.org with:

  • Your name
  • Address
  • Phone number
  • Name of school and county
  • Number of attendees (number of teachers and administrators).

You will receive an email response to verify your registration. The deadline to register is September 9th, 2017. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our education coordinator, Michelle McKay, at michelle@conservatorscenter.org.

We look forward to seeing you soon!
