Wasn't convocation phenomenal? It was wonderful to see all of you as you greeted your colleagues and welcomed one another to what is sure to be a fantastic school year. I so appreciated the message Jennie Magiera (@msmagiera) shared with us and I look forward to visiting your schools to work with you as we support our students and become part of their stories. As you conclude your first week of the 2017-2018 school year and prepare for the first day with students, remember the message Isaiah Young shared with us in song...make sure that the students in your class feel that it is a space where no one can tell them what's impossible.



Introducing Employee Self Service

In September 2017, Henry County Public Schools will be introducing Employee Self-Service (ESS).  Employee Self-Service is a web-based service that provides employees with the ability to view and update online information related to their employment with Henry County Public Schools.  The ability to view your information provides an opportunity for you to ensure your information is correct, as well as to make changes as needed to keep it up to date. 


The ESS system allows employees the advantage of viewing payroll information, including the pay stub, W-2 and W-4 information and leave time.  The system also has a Paycheck Simulator that can be used to determine how your salary will be affected by a change in marital status, dependents claimed, additional withholdings, and more.  
In addition, ESS allows you to view and update your mailing address, email, telephone and emergency contact information. When ESS is implemented in September, HCPS will no longer print monthly pay stubs, since you will be able to log in to the ESS system to view the stub.

During the coming weeks, you will be receiving more in-depth information about ESS, as well as how to log in to your account, access your information, and make changes, so please be on the lookout for this new service!


Don't Forget!

If you have not already printed your Edivate transcript so that you have a record of last year's earned professional development points, do so now. 



  • Log in to Edivate using your username (SPS email) and password. You can recover your password by clicking Forget Password?

  • Click ResourcesLearning Targets > Catalogs.

  • Click the Catalogs tab on the left.

  • Click the Catalog Title  to access the available trainings. The professional learning opportunities available will display in the catalog table, including: type, title, credit (STAR/renewal point) value, and number of seats available.

  • Click the training title to view additional training details such as: audience, description, date, and location. Then, click Register to be added to the training unit.  You can also click the Register button for the training unit you want while viewing the full catalog list.

  • Catalog training units for which you have already registered for will NO LONGER DISPLAY in the catalog. Click Transcript to view your registered and completed training units. You may also print your full transcript of completed and/or registered units.

  • To unregister, click  Resources > Learning Targets > Catalogs > Transcript. Click the Remove button in the status column for the unit from which you want to remove from your transcript or unregister.







Use Google Keep to add notes, lists, and photos.  
To Use Google Keep
Open your email and click on the App Launcher icon(located in top right corner beside of your profile picture) (icon that looks like a grid)
If you don't see Keep, click on MORE (at the bottom of that window)

You can also get to Google Keep by clicking on this link: https://keep.google.com/

The google keep notes are saved and can be seen each time you log into your HCPS Gmail account.  This is a great way to share notes and lists with your co-workers.

Qualified Candidates:

In this competitive market to prepare future administrators in the Southwest Virginia area, I want to bring your attention to a program in educational leadership being offered by James Madison University.  This program is designed for individuals wishing to obtain a master’s degree in educational leadership and for those individuals with a master’s degree seeking administrative licensure.
